The poem "The Pasture" is a well thought out poem because there is a moral to the story which is to appreciate life and your surroundings. The man in the poem has a companion in life and he sees a cow growing up with his mother which reminds him of his childhood. This is an example of an extended metaphor, which goes throughout the poem. The cow growing up with its mother represents a small metaphor inside of the extended metaphor. There is no rhyme scheme to this poem, which means the poem is free verse, the last poetic device I found. Overall, I think this poem is very well thought out and excellent.
