Democracy - This is a good poem because it is short, which I like, but also because it has a good meaning. I think the meaning behind this poem is that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. This poem was written when slavery had just ended. The constitution stated that blacks had freedom, but they were still treated different. I think that is the point the poet was trying to get across. One poetic device in this poem is repetition, which is seen in the use of the word "I". It may not seem like a lot, but it is used frequently in the begining of the lines of the poem. Another poetic device used in this poem is metaphor which is located in the fourth stanza, when it states "freedom is a strong seed". The last poetic device I found in this poem is rhyme. You can find rhyme in stanza four when it says "seed and need". Overall, I think this is a good poem and I really enjoyed reading it.
